About the book

Algorithmics is a branch of knowledge that over the last few decades has provided many effective tools to help solve various problems using a computer. Theory of algorithms and data structures is one of the basic subjects taught at IT and related studies.

This is the third, revised edition of the book, which for many years has been the basic textbook in the field of algorithmics. It differs from the classic academic textbooks: it is addressed not only to IT students. Due to the emphasis on the practical side of the presented issues, it should also be interesting for hobbyists as well as for all those for whom programming is an important but not basic activity in their professional work. It is a modern manual for all those who, in their daily programming work, feel the need to quickly find certain information in the field of algorithms in order to apply them in their programs.

The book describes, among others:

  • Recursive techniques: what is recursion and how to use it in practice?
  • Data sorting: the most popular sorting procedures.
  • Data structures: lists, queues, collections and trees in practical terms.
  • Derekursywacja: how to change a recursive program (sometimes very time-consuming) to a version
  • iterative?
  • Search algorithms: linear search, binary search and linear transformation (hashing).
  • Searching for texts: description of the best-known methods of searching texts (Boyer and
  • Moore, Rabin and Karp, brute-force, KMP).
  • Advanced programming techniques: divide and manage, dynamic programming, greedy algorithms.
  • Graph algorithms: description of one of the most interesting data structures found in computing.
  • Artificial intelligence: can computers think?
  • Data coding and compression: description of the most popular methods of data coding and compression -
  • cryptographic system with public key and Huffman methods

In the book you will also find numerous examples and tasks that will help you test your knowledge. The source code can be found on the included floppy disk.
