The Pololu 3728 module enables automatic switching between two power sources in the 1.6 - 5.5 V range using the TPS2116 from Texas Instruments. The device provides seamless switchover without interruption of the output supply and blocks reverse current into both inputs, protecting connected power sources. The board is suitable for embedded systems, portable devices, IoT projects, and applications requiring controlled source selection with preference for USB power.

In the USB priority version, the USB Type-C connector is connected to VIN1, which serves as the preferred source in priority mode. When USB voltage is present, the output is powered from this input; if it drops or is removed, the board automatically switches to the second source. Configuration also allows controlled switching between VIN1 and VIN2 and adjustment of the switchover threshold. Integrated low Rds(on) MOSFETs enable operation with up to 2.5 A of continuous current while maintaining high efficiency.
