The book presents techniques of computer analysis of three-dimensional scenes based on two-dimensional images. It presents both theoretical foundations as well as practical computer implementations. The author guides the reader, from the outline of the history of research on spatial vision of scenes, through a comprehensive study of stereoscopic techniques of depth reconstruction of the image - both in the human's visual system and in technical systems - up to practical algorithmic solutions. The image feature detectors, such as the edge detector and the tensor detector of the local neighborhood of pixels have also been widely discussed. The monograph is complemented by numerous supplements devoted, among others, to the basics of projective geometry and the outline of the tensor calculus in the field of machine image processing. The book will be useful for a wide group of readers involved in image processing, in particular for engineers and students of such majors as: information technology, electronics, automation and robotics, as well as psychology or mathematics.
