An extension of the USB Host stack that supports USB Communications Device Class (USB CDC)-compliant devices, acting as a virtual serial COM port. It enables communication with GSM, 3G, and LTE modems, cable modems, and devices such as POS terminals that use CDC for data transmission and configuration. The module allows sending and receiving data, configuring transmission parameters, and simultaneously managing multiple devices, generating connection status notifications. Low RAM and ROM requirements and available sample code facilitate integration in embedded systems. Segger emUSB-Host CDC Class (9.35.02)
emUSB-Host CDC is an extension of the USB Host stack that enables support for devices compliant with the USB Communications Device Class (CDC). The solution provides access to devices operating as a virtual serial COM port via the USB interface. This makes it possible to communicate with GSM, 3G, and LTE cellular modems, as well as wired network modems. The module also enables integration of devices that use CDC for data transmission and configuration, such as POS payment terminals and other communication systems.
The CDC class driver allows sending and receiving data in a manner analogous to a traditional serial port. Users can configure transmission parameters such as baud rate, number of stop bits, and parity. The solution supports simultaneous operation of multiple CDC devices connected to the system. The system generates notifications about the CDC connection status, simplifying communication management and enabling quick responses to status changes. It is also possible to read line state and modem status information.
emUSB-Host CDC is designed for embedded systems and therefore features low RAM and ROM consumption. Integration with an existing emUSB-Host-based project is fast and does not require hardware modifications. The package includes sample demonstration code using the API, which displays CDC device information in a debug terminal and runs a simple echo server that returns received data. Additional application examples include support for modems, fax devices, and POS terminals. The solution provides a universal foundation for building USB-based communication systems in embedded environments.
