FPV Drone Battery Chargers

Drone chargers are designed for charging and managing battery packs used in FPV drones and other multirotor platforms. The category includes chargers intended primarily for LiPo and LiHV batteries with different cell counts and capacities. When selecting a charger, consider the supported battery chemistries, cell count, charging power and current, number of channels, and available balancing and charging control functions.

LiPo and LiHV Chargers for Drones

LiPo and LiHV chargers support battery packs commonly used to power drones. Charger selection requires checking the supported battery chemistry, cell count, maximum charging current and power, and available connector types.

Supported Cell Count

The supported battery range, specified using designations such as 1S, 2S, 3S, 4S, 6S, and higher, should match the batteries used in the drone. The charger must support both the battery chemistry and the number of cells connected in series within the pack.

Charging Power and Current

Charging power and maximum charging current determine the charger's ability to handle battery packs with specific capacities and voltages. Charging parameters should be set according to the battery specifications and the maximum permitted charging current specified by its manufacturer.

Cell Balancing

The balancing function allows the voltage of individual cells in a multi-cell battery pack to be monitored during charging. Chargers equipped with a balancer use the battery's balance connector to monitor and equalize the voltage of individual cells within the pack.

Single- and Multi-Channel Chargers

Single-channel chargers handle one charging process, while multi-channel designs allow several battery packs to be charged independently. When comparing multi-channel chargers, consider the maximum power and current available for each channel as well as for the entire device.

Selecting a Charger for a Drone Battery

When selecting a charger, check the battery chemistry, cell count, pack capacity, permitted charging current, and required connectors. The number of channels, balancing function, and charger power supply method should also be considered, particularly for devices requiring an external power source.
