This ideal diode module allows for safe connection of two power supplies to a common output point, preventing reverse current flow. Built-in 20mΩ resistors allow for simple voltage compensation and load balancing between the power supplies. The board offers flexible input and output connectors, facilitating integration into industrial and hobby systems requiring high power reliability. Pololu 5398
The ideal diode module is a practical solution that allows two power sources to be combined into a single common output. Thanks to the use of two identical ideal diode circuits, current does not flow back from the output to either input, ensuring system safety and stability. Typical applications include redundant backup power and load sharing between two power supplies. Each input is equipped with an additional 20 mΩ resistor, which can be used for simple voltage difference compensation between the sources. This solution allows for even load distribution when using two power supplies with similar output voltages.
It should be noted that the circuit operates in a simple OR mode, which means there is no advanced priority selection between power sources. If the voltages of the two supplies differ, an additional resistor can be added to the higher-voltage source circuit, or the wire length can be adjusted to add series resistance and balance the load. Thanks to this, the module finds wide application both in industrial systems and in hobby projects requiring increased power supply reliability.

On the input side, there are two ways to connect each source: through the VINRx terminal with a 20 mΩ resistor or through VINx bypassing the resistor. The output provides a common VOUT point, and ground is shared across all inputs and outputs. The board offers large 3.5 mm pitch mounting holes, suitable for 14 AWG wires and compatible with standard screw terminals. Additionally, smaller 2.54 mm pitch holes are available, enabling the connection of signal wires, pin headers, or a jumper to bypass the balancing resistor. This design makes the module flexible and easy to integrate with different power systems.
