Description

The Arduino Due is an advanced board based on the Atmel SAM3X8E ARM Cortex-M3 microcontroller. It features 54 digital I/O pins, of which 12 can be used as PWM outputs, and 12 analog inputs. Additionally, it includes 4 UART (serial) ports, an 84 MHz clock, USB OTG connectivity, and 2 DAC (digital-to-analog converters). The board also offers 2 TWI (I2C) interfaces, a power connector, SPI interface, JTAG, a reset button, and a reset switch.

The board includes all the necessary components to operate the microcontroller; simply connect it to a computer via a micro-USB cable or power it using an AC-DC adapter or batteries to get started. The Arduino Due is compatible with all Arduino shields operating at 3.3 V that are compliant with the Arduino 1.0 pinout.

The Due board uses the 1.0 pinout, which means:

  • TWI: SDA and SCL pins are located near the AREF pin.
  • IOREF: Allows connection of shields with the appropriate configuration that adjusts to the voltage supplied by the board. This enables compatibility of shields with 3.3 V boards like the Due and with 5 V AVR boards.
  • Unconnected pin reserved for future use.
