Arduino Portenta X8 is a module with an NXP® i.MX 8M Mini processor (pre-loaded Linux) and a dual-core STM32H747XI microcontroller with CortexM7 + M4 core. The board has a built-in WiFi and Bluetooth 5.1 module.
The main system of the Portenta X8 is the NXP i.MX 8M Mini processor equipped with 4 ARM Cortex-A53 cores operating at a frequency of 1.8 GHz and an Arm Cortex-M4 core operating at a frequency of up to 400 MHz. The processor has a built-in 3D GPU and a 2D audio and video decoder and numerous communication interfaces such as MIPI DSI, SAI, CSI, USB, PCIe, Ethernet and UART, I2C, SPI and PWM.
The second chip is a dual-core STM32H747 microcontroller with a Cortex M7 core operating at 480 MHz and a Cortex M4 core operating at a frequency of 240 MHz. The two cores communicate through a remote procedure call mechanism, which allows functions to be called smoothly on the other. The microcontroller is equipped with 2 MB of flash memory, 1 KB of RAM, clock speed up to 480 MHz.
The built-in wireless module allows you to manage WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity at the same time. The WiFi interface can be operated as an access point, as a station or as a simultaneous AP / STA in two modes and can support transfer speeds up to 65 Mb/s. The Bluetooth interface supports Bluetooth Classic and BLE. It is also possible to use a range of wired interfaces such as UART, SPI, Ethernet or I2C, both through some MKR style connectors and through a new pair of 80 pin industrial Arduino connectors.
The board has two 80-pin high-density connectors with pins of the circuits. It combines the availability of Arduino libraries with a Linux distribution and enables power optimized processing. It allows you to use popular programming languages, such as Python, Java and Ruby, and implement advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms.
The module provides industrial-grade security at the hardware level thanks to a cryptographic chip on a dedicated bus. It will be used in areas such as high-class industrial machinery, laboratory equipment, computer vision, PLC controllers, user interfaces and robotics controller.
