An interactive addition to the BBC micro:bit that lets you create music using 15 touchpads that function like piano keys. The module has a built-in amplifier and speaker, so it doesn't require additional audio equipment. Powered via micro USB, it automatically supplies power to the micro:bit, simplifying operation. The keys can perform musical or control functions, making the :KLEF Piano ideal for educational, creative, and hobby projects. Kitronik 5631
Kitronik :KLEF Piano is a unique add-on for the BBC micro:bit that allows you to compose your own melodies and experiment with sound in a simple and intuitive way. The board features 15 touch pads, 13 of which are arranged as one octave, with 2 additional pads used to shift pitch. The device is equipped with a built-in audio amplifier and speaker, so no additional equipment is needed to enjoy music. The micro:bit is installed in an edge connector, and operation is as simple as touching the keys, which function as capacitive sensors.
Power is supplied via a 5 V micro USB connector, with a built-in regulator providing a stable 3.3 V for the micro:bit and other circuits. Importantly, the micro:bit does not require separate power, as it is supplied directly from the piano board. Beyond its musical functions, the keys can be programmed as controllers – for example, to control other micro:bits via the radio module. This makes the :KLEF Piano capable of acting as a remote control for robots, vehicles, or lighting systems such as the :MOVE mini.
The device is fully compatible with micro:bit V1 and V2, and can be programmed using MakeCode, MicroPython, and Mu. This allows students, hobbyists, and educators to develop skills in electronics, coding, and music at the same time. It is not only an instrument but also a multifunctional educational platform that combines creativity with coding. It is ideal for school projects, workshops, and fun at home.
