Description
Prusa MMU3 - Full Kit expands Prusa MK4S and MK3.9S printers with multi-color and multi-material printing using a single nozzle. The system allows up to 5 filaments to be loaded simultaneously and automatically switched during a single print without manual intervention.
Material changes are handled by a selector controlled by dedicated firmware and take on average 35 - 45 s. In projects involving hundreds or thousands of filament swaps, this significantly reduces total print time. Excess material generated during color transitions is directed to a wipe tower or used within the infill structure, depending on PrusaSlicer configuration.
The Full Kit version is delivered as a self-assembly set. The MMU3 assembly manual is available exclusively in electronic form. Unlike the Assembled Unit variant, the module requires complete assembly before first use. This option is intended for users who prefer to build the unit themselves and become familiar with its construction.
The filament feeding system uses a buffer unit and PTFE tubes to guide the material to the module and then to the printer’s extruder. The design reduces movement resistance and minimizes the risk of filament tangling. Bidirectional communication with the printer firmware enables diagnostics, status messages displayed on the LCD screen, and control via the printer menu or the module’s hardware buttons.
MMU3 is fully supported in PrusaSlicer, allowing color assignment to selected model parts, defining material changes at specific layers, and optimizing filament usage through wipe-to-infill or wipe-to-object options. To reduce material waste, the use of a standard nozzle is recommended instead of a high-flow version.
