Module with the APDS9999 sensor enables measurement of ambient light intensity in lux, RGB color detection, and proximity sensing using reflected infrared radiation. The sensor measures red, green, blue, and Clear channels, enabling analysis of light color and estimation of correlated color temperature. Proximity measurement operates by detecting reflected infrared light emitted by the integrated 940 nm VCSEL emitter.

The device communicates via the I2C bus, allowing integration with common microcontroller platforms and single-board computers. The board includes a 3.3 V voltage regulator and logic level shifting circuitry, allowing operation with both 3.3 V and 5 V systems. STEMMA QT / Qwiic connectors enable quick connection using a cable without soldering, simplifying prototyping of measurement systems and IoT projects. The manufacturer also provides a guide and a software library that enable quick setup of the module in the Arduino IDE using just a few lines of code.
