NRF52840 DK is a development kit intended for creating Bluetooth Low Energy, Bluetooth mesh, Thread, Zigbee, 802.15.4, ANT applications and your own applications on the NRF52840 SoC. This is the recommended development kit from Nordic for Amazon Sidewalk. The kit also supports the development of applications on the NRF52811 SoC. It can also be used for Matter over Thread projects, where Thread serves as the transport layer and Bluetooth LE as the application layer. Thread-based Matter devices must also support Bluetooth LE to allow new devices to be added to the network.
The kit makes application development easier by leveraging all the features of the NRF52840 SoC. The NFC antenna enables quick use of the peripheral NFC-A tag. All GPIO inputs/outputs are available via edge and goldpin connectors, and 4 buttons and 4 LEDs facilitate communication with the SoC. The external memory is connected to the QSPI peripheral in the NRF52840 SoC. Additionally, the connector compatible with Arduino Uno R3 allows easy installation of third-party shields. It has a built-in SEGGER J-Link debugger enabling programming and debugging of both the built-in SoC and external systems via the debug out connector. It also works directly with the Power Profiler Kit II.
The kit is typically powered by USB, but can be powered by a wide range of sources ranging from 1.7 to 5 V. In addition to USB, it can be powered by an external source, but also includes a slot for a CR2032 battery and a connector for a Li-Po battery. Current consumption can be measured using dedicated current measurement pins. The board is a great solution for people who want to develop prototypes based on nRF52840 systems.
