Description

The Pololu 3pi+ 2040 is an upgraded version of the popular Pololu mobile robot. It is based on the Raspberry Pi RP2040 microcontroller (like the one in the Raspberry Pi Pico), a 32-bit dual-core Arm Cortex-M0+ running at 125 MHz that can be programmed in C, C++, Arduino or Python. The 3pi+ 2040 has 16 MB (128 Mbit) of flash memory that comes with a pre-installed MicroPython interpreter, so you can get started right away by plugging it into a USB C port and editing the included sample Python programs.

The control board is equipped with two motor controllers, encoders and a flexible power system. The Standard Edition version moves thanks to 2 Pololu 30:1 MP motors, and is powered by four AAA batteries.

Attention!

The kit does not include the AAA batteries required to run the robot. These must be purchased separately.

The robot is equipped with five bounce sensors on the bottom of the platform, two impact sensors on the front of the robot and IMU sensors (accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer). In addition, the board houses indicator LEDs, user buttons, a buzzer and an OLED display.

The microcontroller controlling the robot is equipped with a MicroPython interpreter and can be programmed using the Python language. Only a USB type C cable is required to program the robot (not included). Users can also program the robot in C/C++. Extensive and easy-to-use Pololu Library libraries are available to support the robot's individual circuits.

Full documentation and user manuals are available on the product page.

The robot is available in several versions, both fully assembled and as a kit for self-assembly.

Version Motors Max speed Comments
Standard Edition, assembled 30:1 MP 6V 1,5 m/s good combination of speed and controllability
Standard Edition, kit
Turtle Edition, assembled 75:1 LP 6V 0,4 m/s longest battery life, easiest to control, good for swarm robots or introductory robotics courses
Turtle Edition, kit
Hyper Edition, assembled 15:1 HPCB 6V 4 m/s very fast and difficult to control, easy to damage, recommended for advanced users
Hyper Edition, kit
