PCIe to M.2 NVMe adapter designed for Raspberry Pi 5 enabling connection of an SSD while powering the computer via Power over Ethernet. The module supports M.2 NVMe drives in 2230 and 2242 formats and provides significantly higher read and write speeds compared to microSD cards. The HAT+ compliant design uses the Raspberry Pi 5 PCIe interface and supports booting the system directly from the SSD. Waveshare PoE M.2 HAT+ (C)
Waveshare PoE M.2 HAT+ (C) is an expansion HAT designed for Raspberry Pi 5 that enables connection of an M.2 NVMe SSD through the PCIe interface. The design uses the 16-pin PCIe connector of Raspberry Pi 5 together with an FFC cable, which significantly increases read and write performance compared to microSD storage.

The module supports M.2 NVMe SSD drives in 2230 and 2242 form factors and operates in PCIe Gen2 and Gen3 modes. The solution also supports booting Raspberry Pi 5 directly from the SSD. In typical scenarios, read and write speeds can reach approximately 800 MB/s, with a theoretical interface bandwidth of up to 8 Gb/s.

The HAT integrates a Power over Ethernet function compliant with the IEEE 802.3af/at standard, allowing both network connectivity and power delivery to Raspberry Pi through a single Ethernet cable. PoE input voltage from 37–57 V is converted to 5 V available on the GPIO header (up to 5 A). The board also features LED indicators for power and drive activity.
