The book is a comprehensive guide to modern FPGA chips, presenting from the practical side - on various, richly commented examples - technical solutions used in FPGA systems from the Xilinx family of Spartan 3. The examples in the book have been adapted for implementation on hardware platforms developed by the authors (including the ZL9PLD + ZL10PLD set), which significantly increases the practical value of the publication.
Comprehensive presentation of the issues discussed and a large number of described examples (all prepared in VHDL), allows to treat the book as a manual for students and engineers intending to learn from the practical side both the basics of the VHDL language and the principles of using internal functional blocks Spartan 3 systems and methods of attaching for FPGA external components and peripherals. Great emphasis on practical aspects of using modern programmable systems makes the book an excellent reading also for a wide range of modern electronics enthusiasts who want to broaden and / or update their knowledge.
Dr inż. Jacek Majewski is a research and didactic worker at the Institute of Technical Cybernetics of the Wrocław University of Technology and the Wrocław University of Applied Information Technology. For many years, he has been implementing projects for the industry, including for companies: KGHM, Siemens Poland and Texas Instruments. At the universities he runs classes in the following subjects: FPGA chips, Internet micro servers, Digital signal processing and signal processors. He is the author of the book "Programming 8051 microcontrollers in C language, first steps" (BTC Publisher).
MSc. Piotr Zbysiński is the editor-in-chief of the Elektronika Praktyczna monthly. He deals with applications of programmable chips and popularization of this subject in the monthly. He is the co-author of academic textbooks "Programmable circuits in practice" (WKiŁ) and "Programmable devices, first steps" (BTC Publisher). Since 1997, he has been cooperating in the field of programmable systems with the Department of Telecommunications at the Warsaw University of Technology. Since 2000, he has been a member of the IEEE1532 working group, which deals with the development of a new ISP standard.
Attention!
The examples presented in the book can be run independently using the ZL9PLD set with the ZL10PLD module.
