Description

The Wiegand-RS485 converter enables transmission of Wiegand standard signals over long distances using an RS485 communication bus. The device is used in access control systems, building automation, and industrial automation where data must be transmitted between identification readers, access controllers, and other control system components.

The module performs bidirectional signal conversion between Wiegand and RS485 interfaces. Data received on the Wiegand IN input is converted into an internal transmission protocol and sent through the RS485 bus, while also being simultaneously forwarded to the Wiegand OUT output. Information received from the RS485 bus is converted back to the Wiegand standard and transmitted through the output port.

This solution significantly extends the transmission range of the Wiegand interface, which in standard installations is typically limited to several tens of meters. The use of the RS485 bus allows data transmission over longer distances and supports the construction of distributed systems with multiple communication nodes. The module can operate as a protocol converter or as a Wiegand signal extender when two devices are connected via the RS485 bus.

The device is a component intended for integration into electronic systems and requires installation in an appropriate protective enclosure. The primary application involves modernization of legacy access control systems and industrial automation installations. During replacement of controllers or central units, existing RFID readers can remain in operation, reducing the scope of system upgrades and lowering implementation costs.
