Motion sensing module based on the STMicroelectronics IIS2DULPX 3-axis accelerometer, offering selectable measurement ranges from ±2 g to ±16 g and an output data rate of up to 800 Hz. The sensor supports motion, free-fall, tap, orientation, step, and tilt detection, while an additional QVAR channel enables capacitive sensing. Communication is provided via I2C, and two Qwiic connectors simplify solderless integration. Soldered 333363

Description

The module uses the IIS2DULPX 3-axis accelerometer with ±2 g, ±4 g, ±8 g, and ±16 g ranges and an ODR from 1.6 Hz to 800 Hz. Embedded algorithms support wake-up detection, free-fall detection, single and double tap recognition, 6D and 4D orientation, step counting, tilt detection, and sleep detection, allowing part of the motion analysis to be performed without continuous processing by the host microcontroller. The QVAR channel enables capacitive sensing and can be used for touch detection, liquid level sensing, and electric field detection.

Communication is provided via I2C with address 0x18, while two interrupt outputs, INT1 and INT2, allow events to be signaled directly in hardware. The FIFO buffer stores up to 256 samples. The IIS2DULPX operates from 1.62 V to 3.6 V, while the breakout board includes an onboard regulator for compatibility with 5 V systems. Two Qwiic connectors provide convenient access to the I2C bus. Low current consumption, approximately 3 µA in ultra-low-power mode and 12 nA in deep power-down mode, makes the module suitable for battery-powered devices, motion tracking systems, wearables, and IoT sensors.
