FeatherWing module with a 2.9-inch 296 × 128px e-paper display showing black and red pixels on a white background. The board uses the SSD1680 controller, onboard SRAM, a microSD socket and three optional buttons, while pre-installed socket headers allow a Feather board to be connected without soldering. Adafruit 4778
The device Adafruit 2.9" Tri-Color eInk / ePaper Display FeatherWing - SSD1680 combines a 2.9-inch e-paper display with a FeatherWing-format board designed for Adafruit Feather platforms. The panel has a resolution of 296 × 128px and displays black and red pixels on a white background. E-paper technology retains the displayed image even after power is removed, making the module suitable for electronic labels, status displays, clocks, information panels and other projects where screen content changes periodically.
The current revision uses the SSD1680 controller and works with Adafruit libraries for Arduino and CircuitPython. The display communicates through the SPI bus. With a resolution of 296 × 128px and 2 bits per pixel, a full image buffer requires approximately 9.5KB of memory, so the board includes additional SRAM. The SRAM shares the SPI bus with the display and allows image data to be stored without using a large portion of the microcontroller RAM.
The board also includes a microSD socket for storing images, text files and other project data. The microSD card and SRAM use the shared SPI bus with separate Chip Select lines. Three optional buttons are also available for user interface functions when the connected Feather board provides suitable GPIO pins.
The FeatherWing is supplied assembled and tested with socket headers installed for direct connection to a compatible Feather board. Standard Feather installation does not require soldering. The additional SRAM also allows the display to be used with microcontrollers that have limited internal RAM.
