Seeed Studio 109990585 XIAO Debug Mate debugger and UART monitor designed for diagnosing, programming, and testing embedded systems based on Seeed Studio XIAO development boards and compatible microcontrollers. The device integrates a DAPLink-compatible SWD debugger, a UART serial monitor, and a power consumption analyzer. It features an ESP32-S3 microcontroller, a 2.01" color TFT LCD with a resolution of 240 x 296 px, and a 36-LED matrix. Its design allows compatible XIAO boards to be mounted directly in the device socket, reducing the need for additional wiring.

The DAPLink-compatible SWD interface enables debugging of compatible ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers using OpenOCD and PyOCD tools. During software analysis, developers can set breakpoints, execute code step by step, and inspect memory contents and variable values. The debugging function supports selected Seeed Studio XIAO boards based on SAMD21, nRF52840, RP2040, RP2350, RA4M1, and MG24 microcontrollers. SWD debugging is currently not supported for XIAO boards from the ESP32 and nRF54L15 series.
The built-in power consumption analyzer allows voltage and current monitoring during microcontroller operation and in low-power modes. The device supports microamp-level measurements and identification of changes in power consumption, including peak and minimum values. The manufacturer specifies an accuracy of ±10% in the 1 to 10 µA range. The function is useful for developing battery-powered devices, testing sleep modes, and evaluating the impact of software changes on current consumption.
The UART monitor displays serial communication data directly on the TFT screen, allowing diagnostic messages to be read without running a terminal application on a computer. The device can monitor transmissions from a connected XIAO board or an external UART module. The UART passthrough function also enables data to be forwarded to a computer for further analysis. The 36-LED matrix can indicate the selected baud rate, making it easier to monitor communication settings.
The XIAO Debug Mate is suitable for electronics prototyping, diagnosing sensor communication, software testing, and power consumption monitoring. Viewing diagnostic messages on the built-in display simplifies device testing during servicing and operation away from a computer workstation. The device can also be used in educational activities and for developing custom diagnostic instruments. The XIAO Debug Mate debugging documentation provides information on using the DAPLink interface and configuring the development environment.

The device features 14 standard XIAO pins, 8 expansion pins, 4 SWD pins, and a Grove UART connector. Menu navigation is handled by a user button that also serves as the BOOT button, a scroll wheel, and a recessed Reset button. Power is supplied through the USB-C port at 5 V / 1 A. The enclosure is 3D-printed from black PLA and measures 100 x 20 x 56 mm. Additional pins allow the device to be used with external modules and microcontrollers supporting the appropriate communication interfaces.

The open-source hardware and software design enables the development of custom diagnostic functions and adaptation of the device to specific project requirements. The manufacturer provides firmware source code, design files, and resources for the 3D-printable enclosure. The Seeed Studio XIAO Debug Mate GitHub repository provides access to project resources and firmware. The kit also includes two 4-pin Grove adapter cables for connecting external devices. The Seeed Studio XIAO development board must be purchased separately.
