Description

The camera expansion board Waveshare MAX9296-GMSL-HAT is based on the MAX9296A deserializer from Maxim Integrated / Analog Devices and supports simultaneous connection of two GMSL cameras to Raspberry Pi 5, Jetson Orin Nano or Jetson Orin NX. Support for GMSL2 with GMSL1 compatibility allows the board to be used in vision systems requiring high-bandwidth and low-latency video transmission.

Two camera inputs use FAKRA Z connectors and support video transmission together with 12V PoC camera power over coaxial cables. The MAX9296A supports serializers including MAX9295, MAX96717 and MAX96705. The board can be used in machine vision, mobile robotics, monitoring systems and other applications based on GMSL cameras.

On the host side, the board provides two 22-pin MIPI CSI connectors for connection to Raspberry Pi 5 or Jetson platforms. The CFG switch allows default startup parameters such as serializer I2C address and link rate to be configured. These settings can subsequently be overwritten through software.

The board requires a 5V power input through a dedicated power connector. Camera power is then supplied through the FAKRA connectors using PoC. Mounting holes and edge-mounted connectors simplify integration with SBC platforms and custom enclosures.
