MCP2515-I/SO is a widely used SPI-based CAN controller that enables adding CAN bus support to microcontrollers without a built-in CAN module. It is suitable for embedded and industrial applications, provided that an appropriate external CAN transceiver is used for connection to the bus.
MCP2515-I/SO is a stand-alone CAN 2.0B controller that communicates with a microcontroller via the SPI interface. The device implements the CAN protocol/control layer (it is not a transceiver) and requires an external CAN transceiver (e.g., MCP2551, TJA1050, SN65HVD230) to connect to the physical CAN bus. The I/SO version indicates industrial temperature range and SOIC package.
The module is based on the GD32E103 microcontroller, supporting CAN FD at up to 5 Mbps, making it ideal for automotive and automation applications. With AT command support, Grove connector and compatibility with XIAO RP2040 boards, the module offers easy integration in IoT projects such as monitoring or automation. Seeed Studio 114992978
