Description
The Waveshare CAN FD ETH RS232/RS485 converter is designed for integrating the CAN FD bus with Ethernet networks and RS232 and RS485 serial interfaces in industrial and embedded systems. The device enables bidirectional data transmission between CAN FD and network or serial ports, supporting CAN FD as well as CAN 2.0A and CAN 2.0B protocols.
The module supports five data conversion modes, including transparent mode, transparent mode with ID, standard protocol conversion, Modbus protocol conversion, and custom protocol conversion with user-defined frame headers and trailers. This flexibility allows the communication method to be adapted to the requirements of industrial automation systems, BMS solutions, electric vehicle infrastructure, and industrial monitoring.
The CAN interface operates with an arbitration baud rate from 5 Kbps to 1 Mbps and a data domain baud rate from 100 Kbps to 5 Mbps. The converter is equipped with an RJ45 Ethernet port supporting 10/100 Mbps and a single serial port configurable as RS232 or RS485. Built-in 120 Ω terminating resistors can be enabled using DIP switches.
The enclosure is designed for DIN-rail mounting, and the operating temperature range from -40°C to 85°C allows use in industrial environments. Parameter configuration is performed via PC software or AT commands, and firmware upgrades are carried out from the host side. The device supports heartbeat packets and registration packets when operating with the Ethernet interface.
