USB 2.0 protocol analyzer based on the Lattice ECP5 FPGA, designed for USB communication diagnostics, reverse engineering and electronic device testing. Supports Low-Speed, Full-Speed and High-Speed transmission and works with Packetry software, LUNA and Facedancer platforms. Equipped with three USB Type-C connectors, a USB Type-A port and Pmod expansion connections. The Bare Board version is supplied without an enclosure or USB cables. Great Scott Gadgets Cynthion Bare Board
Great Scott Gadgets Cynthion Bare Board enables capturing, monitoring and analyzing communication between computers and USB devices. The design uses a programmable Lattice ECP5 FPGA and supports USB 2.0 communication in Low-Speed (1.5Mb/s), Full-Speed (12Mb/s) and High-Speed (480Mb/s) modes. When used with Packetry software, it allows users to capture packets, analyze communication sequences and identify problems related to USB interface operation. The device is suitable for peripheral diagnostics, communication protocol research, reverse engineering and authorized hardware security testing.
Cynthion also supports the LUNA framework for developing USB implementations in FPGA and the Facedancer library, used to create and test software-defined USB device implementations through a physical hardware interface. Available connectors include three USB Type-C ports - CONTROL, AUX and TARGET C - and a USB Type-A port (TARGET A). The board also provides footprints for Pmod connectors, allowing the FPGA functionality to be expanded. The design supports the development of protocol analysis setups, experiments with host-device communication and custom USB solutions.
The Bare Board version is supplied as a fully assembled circuit board without an enclosure, providing direct access to components and connections. The board measures approximately 56 x 56mm. Operation requires suitable USB cables, which are not included in the kit. The device supports USB 2.0 protocols but does not support USB 3.x SuperSpeed traffic analysis.
