Description

The Analog Discovery 3 is a digital oscilloscope, logic analyser, waveform generator and programmable power supply in one. Using the included WaveForms software (supported on Windows, Mac and Linux), the Analog Discovery 3 oscilloscope can be used in the lab, in the workshop or even at home as a test instrument set. Like its predecessor, the Analog Discovery 3 is a portable USB-powered test and measurement device, although it now features an improved USB-C connector. It is lightweight and small enough to fit in a pocket or backpack.

The latest addition to the Analog Discovery series gives engineers access to two new advanced WaveForms features: a FIR (finite impulse response) filter and a PID (proportional-integral-differential) controller. By using the optional FIR filters on the oscilloscope's input channels, users can reduce the amount of high-frequency noise that can affect the quality of their measurements. The PID controller allows the output signal to be controlled based on the system response.

Analog Discovery 3 features a larger buffer size, allowing more data to be sent by the waveform generator and received by the oscilloscope. It also has an increased sampling rate of up to 125 MS/s on all channels and a more powerful power supply (~800 mA). The larger buffers also offer increased performance with higher resolution AM/FM bands, along with AWG phase modulation, summing and internal loopback.

In standard mode, the Analog Discovery 3 is operated using the free WaveForms software, which includes a user interface reminiscent of traditional desktop software and allows the use of available analogue and digital instruments. The hardware device communicates with WaveForms via a USB connection to a computer, allowing users to capture, record, analyse and generate signal waveforms. In addition to using the instruments, the WaveForms application has a script editor tool that allows users to create custom scripts in JavaScript. WaveForms is designed to run on a laptop or desktop computer and is compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux.

To exploit the attachment's even greater potential, the user has the WaveForms Software Development Kit (SDK), which can be used to create custom applications and scripts in Python, C and other languages. Analog Discovery 3 is also compatible with LabVIEW and Digilent Toolbox for compatibility with MathWorks' MATLAB Data Acquisition Toolbox. Also included with Analog Discovery 3 is a free 30-day trial of EveryMeasure, a new data storage and visualisation platform, and a one-year subscription to Multisim Live Premium, an online circuit simulator that allows users to create, learn and share circuits and electronics online.
