An ionising radiation detector (a.k.a. dosimeter or Geiger counter) is a device used to measure the dose of ionising radiation, i.e. the amount of energy that is absorbed by an organism or material during exposure to radiation. Dosimeters are used in many fields, including the nuclear industry, radiation medicine, space research and environmental protection. The detector is constructed of a metal tube that sits inside a glass cylinder filled with gas. It is capable of detecting three types of radiation: X-rays (X-rays), Y-rays and β-rays.
The basic parameters of the detector are the measurement range, which is 0.00 to 1000 uSv/h (10 mSv/h), and the measured energy range, which is 48 keV to 1.5 Mev with an accuracy of ±30%. The detector's sensitivity is 80 CPM/μ Sv for Co-60 and the user can display data in a variety of measurement units, including μSv/h, μGy/h, mR/h, cps and cpm.
The radiation detector can be used in a variety of environments. It has the ability to generate an alarm when a set threshold is exceeded by means of an LED, vibration or sound. It is equipped with an LCD display and is powered by a 1200 mAh battery. The detector can be recharged via a USB connection. Its design is robust and resistant to damage.
