Description
The M5Stack Tab5 Keyboard (A164) is designed to extend the functionality of the Tab5 terminal with a physical text input interface. The module connects directly to the Tab5 Ext.Port1 expansion connector, providing a plug-and-play user experience. It is suitable for text entry, command-line interaction, application control, educational projects, and maker applications requiring a full-featured physical keyboard.
STM32 controller and keyboard features
Keyboard operation is managed by the STM32F030C8T6 microcontroller, which performs key matrix scanning and communication with the host device. The preloaded firmware supports three operating modes: Normal, HID, and Character, allowing the data transmission method to be adapted to different applications. The 14 × 5 key matrix supports multiple simultaneous key presses and provides a complete set of letters, numbers, symbols, and commonly used function keys.
The device features:
- Communication interface: I2C bus with a default address of 0x6D and a dedicated INT interrupt line for low-latency event reporting
- Keyboard: 70-key layout with support for multiple simultaneous key presses
- Status indication: two WS2812E RGB LEDs
- Mounting: side locking clips for secure attachment to the Tab5 terminal and two M3 mounting holes
- Hardware interface: 2 × 5-pin connector with a 2.54 mm pitch
