The amplifier with 6C4C tubes described in Practical Electronics no. 12/2001 works best with loudspeaker sets with high efficiency. Unfortunately, not all fans of tube sound have or prefer such speakers and therefore a more powerful amplifier is needed to work with modern sets. The presented construction is based on 6S33S lamps, popularly known as "devils". They allow you to achieve 15 W of output power, which allows you to drive contemporary loudspeaker sets with an average efficiency.
Recommendations: the amplifier is designed for fans of "tube sound" who have experience in building electronic systems powered with high voltage.

Basic information:

• sensitivity at 15 W output power, 8 V load and 1 kHz sinusoidal signal = 900 mVrms.
• frequency response at 1W output power, 8V load and 3 dB gain drop = 20 Hz.60 kHz.
• frequency response at 1W output power, 8V load and 1 dB gain drop = 30 Hz.30 kHz.
• the quiescent current of the V3L and V3R power stage lamps = 180 mA.
• harmonic distortion (Robc = 8V, Po = 1W):

  • 100 - 0.9%
  • 1k - 0.9%
  • 10k - 1.3%
  • 20k - 1.8%
