A digital gas and air quality sensor that measures eCO2, TVOC, and the AQI air quality index. The device utilizes metal-oxide technology with four sensor sections and an embedded microcontroller, simplifying operation and integration with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and CircuitPython platforms. The sensor supports I2C and SPI interfaces, as well as temperature and humidity compensation using an external sensor. The compact design and STEMMA QT/Qwiic standard allow for easy integration into projects. Adafruit 6431
Adafruit ENS161 MOX Gas Sensor is an advanced digital gas and air quality sensor, ideal for educational projects, IoT, and environmental monitoring. The device enables precise detection of various gases using metal-oxide (MOX) technology with integrated heating elements on a single chip. ENS161 is an upgraded version of the popular ENS160, featuring new eCO2 and TVOC algorithms as well as an air quality indicator (AQI). The sensor divides the hot MOX plate into four sections, and the built-in microcontroller manages power, analog voltage readings, and provides an I2C/SPI interface for easy integration with platforms like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or other CircuitPython-compatible devices. This eliminates the need to manually control the heater and analog readings.
ENS161 supports temperature and humidity compensation using an external humidity sensor, ensuring more accurate results and minimizing the impact of environmental conditions. The sensor comes in STEMMA QT / Qwiic format, allowing seamless connection to other modules via plug-and-play cables without soldering. All pins are routed to standard headers, and the built-in 3.3V voltage regulator and level shifter enable operation with both 3.3V and 5V systems, such as Arduino Uno or Feather M4. Lightweight and compact, ENS161 is ideal for indoor air quality monitoring, educational experiments, and IoT prototyping.
