FPV Drone Batteries

Drone batteries supply power to the propulsion system, flight controller, ESCs, and other onboard electronics. The category includes battery packs designed for FPV drones and other multirotor platforms, selected according to cell count, capacity, discharge rate, weight, and connector type. Battery parameters affect the available supply voltage, propulsion system performance, flight time, and final drone weight.

LiPo Batteries for Drones

LiPo battery packs are used in drone power systems requiring high current delivery while keeping battery weight low. The main parameters to consider when selecting a battery include cell count, capacity, C discharge rating, weight, and pack dimensions.

Battery Voltage and Cell Count

Designations such as 1S, 2S, 3S, 4S, 6S, and higher indicate the number of cells connected in series and therefore determine the pack voltage. The cell count should be matched to the motors, ESC, and other components of the drone's power system.

Drone Battery Capacity

Capacity, specified in mAh, indicates the amount of energy available during operation. A higher capacity can extend flight time but also increases the weight and usually the dimensions of the battery pack, requiring appropriate selection for a specific drone configuration.

Battery Discharge Rate

The C rating specifies the battery pack's ability to deliver current to the propulsion system. The battery should provide sufficient current for the combined demand of the motors and ESCs, including periods of rapid thrust increase.

Drone Battery Connectors

The connector type should match the drone's power wiring and the expected current load. Drone battery packs commonly use XT30, XT60, and smaller connectors designed for lightweight FPV platforms.

Selecting a Battery for a Drone

When selecting a battery pack, consider the supported voltage of the ESC and motors, required current, capacity, weight, dimensions, and connector type. The battery should also fit within the space provided by the frame and remain within the weight range intended for the specific propulsion system configuration.
