Description

DRV8263H Single Brushed DC Motor Driver Carrier is a compact and versatile DC motor driver board featuring the Texas Instruments DRV8263H-Q1 IC. It allows control of one DC motor in both directions or two DC motors in a single direction, with a wide supply voltage range from 4.5 V to 65 V and continuous current up to 3.5 A (with a peak limit up to 10 A). The module includes current sensing and peak current limiting, as well as protection against overvoltage, overcurrent, and overheating.

The board offers three control modes: Phase/Enable (PH/EN), PWM (IN/IN), and independent half-bridge control. The PH/EN mode allows simple speed and direction control using a single PWM signal, the PWM mode enables advanced alternating motor control, and the independent half-bridge mode gives full control over each output. The board also provides output status diagnostics to detect short circuits or open circuits on the motor.

    • VIN – Board power input: 4.5 V to 65 V.
    • GND – Ground for both logic and motor power.
    • VM – Motor voltage output after reverse-polarity protection; can also supply other components in the system.
    • OUT1 – Motor 1 output.
    • OUT2 – Motor 2 output.
    • SLEEP (LOW) – Sleep control; when LOW, the driver enters low-power mode, and motor outputs go to high-impedance (coast).
    • DRVOFF (HIGH) – Sets driver outputs to high-impedance (coast) when HIGH.
    • EN/IN1 (LOW) – Motor 1 control input (acts as enable pin in PHASE/ENABLE mode).
    • PH/IN2 (LOW) – Motor 2 control input (acts as direction pin in PHASE/ENABLE mode).
    • DIAG (FLOATING) – Configures load indication and fault response; pin state is registered at power-on or wake from sleep.
    • SR (FLOATING) – Configures slew rate; connect to ground for maximum speed and current performance. State is registered at power-on or wake.
    • ITRIP (FLOATING) – Configures optional load current limit; default corresponds to 3 V (10 A at 300 mV/A sensitivity). Changes take effect immediately during operation.
    • MODE (FLOATING) – Selects control mode: floating – PWM (IN/IN), LOW – PHASE/ENABLE, connected to ground via 16 kΩ resistor – independent half-bridge. State registered at initialization.
    • FAULT (PULLED UP) – Fault output; pulled up to VDD via 10 kΩ (HIGH by default), goes LOW on fault (overcurrent, overtemperature, undervoltage). Used for shutdown diagnostics.
    • IPROPI – Current sense output; analog feedback voltage, approx. 300 mV/A at default settings.

Logic and motor power are physically separated, allowing connection of 3–5 V logic on one side and high-current motor power on the other. The board provides reverse-voltage protection and easy mounting with screw holes. Built-in 8.8 µF ceramic capacitors support stability, but for optimal performance, an additional large capacitor at the motor supply is recommended. This module is ideal for robotics, automation, and DIY projects requiring precise DC motor control.
