Badgeware Blinky is a smart, interactive educational device featuring a bright white LED matrix display, powered by the Raspberry Pi RP2350 microcontroller. The Blinky 2350 model is equipped with a large matrix of 872 individually addressable white LEDs, enabling the display of animations, games, scrolling text, and pixel graphics. The device includes a built-in 1000 mAh LiPo battery and a durable, semi-transparent polycarbonate enclosure. It can be worn around the neck using the included lanyard or placed on a desk as a striking decorative display.
At its core is the RP2350A – a dual-core Arm Cortex-M33 microcontroller running at 250 MHz with 520 KB SRAM, supported by 16 MB of QSPI Flash (XiP) and 8 MB of PSRAM. Wireless connectivity is provided by the Raspberry Pi RM2 (CYW43439) module, supporting Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth. The 39 × 26 LED matrix is driven by high-performance FM6047 constant-current drivers, ensuring precise brightness control. The badge features five user buttons, along with dedicated Reset/Sleep and Home/Boot buttons. An onboard PCF85063A real-time clock enables scheduled wake-up from sleep mode.
Charging is handled via a USB-C port, with the integrated MCP73831 charger IC ensuring safe battery charging. With support for MicroPython and the BadgeOS system, Blinky 2350 is an excellent platform for both beginners and advanced STEM creators. It is a versatile educational tool that combines programming, electronics, and creative experimentation in a single compact device.
