Bipolar stepper motor driver operating at voltages from 8 to 50 V and currents up to 8 A/phase (11 A with cooling). The DRV8711 driver with an SPI interface offers 9 stepping modes (up to 1/256), current configuration, stall detection, and protection against short circuits, overloads, and reverse polarity. Compatible with 1.8–5 V logic, it is ideal for CNC machines, 3D printers, and robotics. Pololu 3731
The Pololu High-Power Stepper Motor Driver 36v8 is a high-performance solution for controlling large bipolar stepper motors. The device combines the DRV8711 chip from Texas Instruments with external MOSFET transistors, enabling exceptionally high operating parameters. The regulator supports a wide supply voltage range from 8 V to 50 V, and thanks to its design, it can deliver up to 8 A continuous current per phase without additional cooling. With heatsinks or active cooling, this current can be increased to around 11 A, making it suitable for the most demanding industrial and hobby applications.
With its SPI interface, the driver offers a wide range of configuration options – from current limiting and microstep mode selection to decay timing and overload detection algorithms. The driver supports up to 9 step resolutions, from full-step to 1/256 step, enabling very smooth and precise motion control. Additionally, the unit features stall detection and provides a BEMF output that can be used for advanced control algorithms. The product is equipped with a set of protections, including reverse voltage protection, undervoltage lockout, overcurrent protection, and short-circuit protection, ensuring high reliability in operation.
Compatibility with 1.8 V, 3.3 V, and 5 V logic makes it easy to integrate with various microcontroller systems and single-board computers. With the available Arduino library, setup and operation are straightforward, even for beginners. The 36v8 driver has the same dimensions and pinout as the 36v4 version but offers significantly higher current handling, making it an excellent choice for high-power applications.
The product is delivered as a ready-to-use board but requires soldering of the included through-hole components, such as connectors and pin headers. This allows the user to adapt the mounting and wiring method to their project. It is an ideal solution for building 3D printers, CNC machines, robots, and other devices requiring precise and powerful stepper motor control.
