Compact stepper motor driver module based on the MPS MP6602, designed for bipolar and unipolar stepper motors. It supports a 4.5–35 V motor supply, current limit up to 4 A, microstepping down to 1/32 step, and an SPI interface. This version features factory-soldered male header pins. Pololu 5689
Stepper motor driver module Pololu 5689 uses the MPS MP6602 controller designed for bipolar and unipolar stepper motors. The module operates from a motor supply voltage of 4.5 V to 35 V and allows the current limit to be configured up to 4 A. The 4-layer PCB with 2 oz copper improves heat dissipation, while compatibility with 3.3 V and 5 V logic simplifies integration with common control systems.
The SPI interface allows configuration of the current limit, microstep mode, decay off time, automatic hold current, and stall detection parameters. The driver supports full step and microstepping modes of 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, and 1/32 step. Motor movement can be controlled through STEP/DIR inputs or directly through SPI, depending on the requirements of the application.
Diagnostic functions include rotor stall detection, BEMF measurement, open-load detection, and fault indication through the FAULT output. Integrated protection covers overcurrent, undervoltage, overvoltage, and excessive temperature. Version Pololu 5689 also features factory-soldered male header pins, eliminating the need for additional soldering and allowing the module to be installed directly in a compatible socket or breadboard.
