Kitronik Motor Driver Board is a compact yet feature-rich board for the Raspberry Pi Pico, designed specifically for projects such as robotic buggies. It enables control of two motors simultaneously with full directional control – forward, reverse, and stop. Alternatively, the board can also be used to drive a stepper motor, supporting half-step mode (without micro-stepping).


The DRV8833 driver chip provides built-in short-circuit, overcurrent, and thermal protection, ensuring stable and safe operation. The board also features 4 additional GPIO connectors along with 3V and GND breakout pins from the Raspberry Pi Pico, allowing connection of sensors, switches, and other elements to extend project functionality. A built-in on/off switch and power status LED make it easy to monitor the board’s state and save energy when not in use. Power can be supplied via a screw terminal or servo connector, and the board also generates a regulated voltage that is supplied directly to the Raspberry Pi Pico through the 40-pin connector, eliminating the need for separate power.
To use the board, the Raspberry Pi Pico must have a soldered header and be securely seated in the connector. Kitronik has also prepared a MicroPython module and sample code, available on GitHub, which makes it quick to start programming in Thonny or another compatible editor. Note that due to the additional power consumption of the Pico W module, it is not recommended to use its wireless features with this board – standard operation remains unaffected. With its compact size, ease of use, and extensive functionality, this board is an excellent solution for anyone looking to develop robotic projects with the Raspberry Pi Pico.
