The Fermion C4002 mmWave Human Presence Sensor uses 24GHz FMCW radar technology to detect human presence indoors. Unlike traditional PIR sensors, the module detects not only large movements but also micro-motions such as breathing or subtle chest movements, enabling reliable detection of people sitting, sleeping or working at a desk.
The detection range reaches up to 11 m for motion and up to 10 m for stationary presence. A wide 120° x 120° detection angle covers areas up to 10 x 10 m. The detection distance can be configured in software, allowing precise adjustment to the room layout and limiting detection outside a defined zone.

The module features a UART interface and a configurable OUT pin, enabling integration with controllers such as Arduino, ESP32 and Raspberry Pi. ESPHome support allows direct integration with Home Assistant, where entities such as occupancy, distance and signal energy become available after uploading the configuration.
An adaptive background noise filtering algorithm reduces false triggers caused by moving plants, curtains or other environmental disturbances. The sensor is suitable for smart lighting automation, HVAC control, occupancy monitoring and IoT applications requiring accurate human presence detection without cameras.
