About the book

Publication series: Automation and control systems

This handbook presents a set of exercises aimed at improving the ability to create professional applications in Profit HMI / SCADA ~ iFIX v5.0 PL. This issue is a continuation of the principles presented in the "Basics of SCADA systems programming", which discusses the full process of application development based on the chemical reactor's technological object.

The manual "Advanced issues of SCADA system programming" discusses the effective ways to create professional applications using the latest information technologies. Each of the chapters is preceded by a short introduction. Then, for each exercise, its purpose is defined, after which a practical task is formulated to be executed in the form of a drawing, the expected final result is shown, and then, step by step, a problem solution is presented. The reader is also offered additional explanatory information.

Execution of individual exercises in the given order ensures proper understanding of the problem and the acquisition of the ability to use the possibilities offered by the iF software [X v5.0 PL. Although some of the exercises are very complex, the Author guides the reader with even the necessary buttons to use. Many exercises contain programming elements. The reader may sometimes have doubts whether the proposed solutions or variable values are correct. These doubts will certainly be dispelled during the next stages of the project.

It should be emphasized that the presented examples have been discussed for years by the author in many subjects conducted at the Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science of the Silesian University of Technology and have been verified many times by students. They are also the fruit of numerous author's experiences in implementing SCADA applications in various industries at home and abroad. The author has also been running SCADA programming courses for over a dozen years, enjoying great recognition among representatives of many industries. Summing up, I convince you 7 that this handbook can help many readers to learn about effective programming tools and methods of implementing SCADA systems in industrial practice. Marek Pawelczyk
