

Function module designed for MicroMod boards. Allows wired communication to be added to the design as part of CAN industrial networks. The module has an M.2 connector and works with MicroMod Main Board (Single) and MicroMod Main Board (Double).
The Controller Area Network (CAN bus) is a popular communication standard in all kinds of applications, from passenger vehicles to lighting control and building automation. The module uses the CAN controller MCP2515 together with the CAN transceiver MCP2551. The MCP2515 is a very popular IC for the CAN bus, making many Arduino libraries available.
There are two connectors on the board for connecting the CAN node. The first is a simple 2-pin screw terminal for CANH and CANL. The second is a D-sub connector for use with an OBD-II to DB9 cable. The pin layout of the D-sub connector can be changed using a solder jumper on the bottom of the board to make it compatible with other CAN 'DB9' cables on the market. The built-in 120 Ohm termination resistor is disconnected by default, but can be connected using a solder jumper in situations where you are creating your own CAN network, rather than inserting a node into an existing bus.
MicroMod is an interface ecosystem that connects the main module to the processor or the microcontroller to various peripherals through expansion boards. Using the M.2 standard, MicroMod allows easy replacement of main modules.
