The MPLAB PICkit 5 is a debugger/programmer that enables rapid prototyping and programming of all Microchip devices, including PIC microcontrollers (MCUs) and dsPIC digital signal controllers (DSCs), AVR and SAM devices, and Arm Cortex-based microprocessors (MPUs). It works with the MPLAB X integrated development environment (IDE) to provide a powerful and easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI) for debugging and development. Alternatively, it can be used standalone with the MPLAB Programmer-to-Go (PTG) mobile app, allowing you to connect to the tool from your smartphone via Bluetooth. With self-contained programming features accessible from a smartphone, the MPLAB PICkit 5 is a comprehensive development tool that allows you to prototype and debug, then unplug and take the device with you to deploy to your target device.
The MPLAB PICkit 5 supports a wide range of interfaces such as four-wire JTAG or Serial Wire Debug (SWD) with a virtual UART communication port (VCP), and with the debugger adapter card (AC102015) it can use standard JTAG, SWD, ICSP and AVR protocols. Thanks to its unique feature, the PICkit 5 can also be powered by the target board and program by pressing the button hidden under the logo. You can also connect via Bluetooth using the MPLAB PTG mobile app and view the micro SDTM card installed in the tool and start target board programming directly from the app.
