ADS7128 breakout combining an 8-channel 12-bit ADC with a GPIO expander. Each channel can operate as an analog input, digital input or push-pull / open-drain digital output, while communication is provided through I2C at speeds up to 3.4MHz. Adafruit 6494
The converter and GPIO expander breakout Adafruit ADS7128 uses the ADS7128 device from Texas Instruments, combining an 8-channel 12-bit analog-to-digital converter with digital I/O expansion. Each of the eight channels can be independently configured as an analog input, digital input, push-pull digital output or open-drain digital output. The module can be used to add analog inputs and GPIOs to microcontrollers, single-board computers and measurement systems.
The ADS7128 includes additional signal-processing functions such as programmable thresholds for individual channels, event counting, averaging filters, zero-crossing detection and RMS calculation. The integrated RMS module provides a 16-bit output, while the programmable RMS time window allows the measurement to be adapted to the monitored signal.
The device uses separate AVDD and DVDD supply domains for the analog and digital sections. AVDD operates from 2.35–5.5V, while DVDD supports 1.65–5.5V. This allows, for example, 3.3V I2C logic to be used while measuring analog signals referenced to a 5V analog supply.
Communication is provided through I2C at speeds up to 3.4MHz. Three address bits provide up to 8 configurable I2C addresses. The device also supports CRC for read and write operations as well as power-up configuration.
The breakout includes two STEMMA QT / Qwiic connectors for solderless I2C connection. Arduino and CircuitPython libraries are available from Adafruit. The board measures approximately 30.5 × 17.8 × 4.7mm and weighs approximately 2.1g.
