Description

The sensor breakout Adafruit SCD-43 uses the SCD-43 device for direct carbon dioxide measurement using a photoacoustic principle. The sensor measures actual CO2 concentration rather than estimating it from volatile organic compounds. Its measurement range is 400–5000ppm, with a specified accuracy of ±(30ppm + 3% of reading). The module can be used for indoor air quality monitoring, ventilation control, environmental experiments and industrial or laboratory measurement systems.

The SCD-43 also integrates temperature and humidity sensing, allowing one module to provide three key environmental parameters. The CO2 response time is approximately 60s. The device is factory calibrated and linearized for easier integration into measurement systems.

Communication is provided through I2C at address 0x62. The Adafruit board includes two STEMMA QT / Qwiic connectors for solderless connection to compatible development boards. An onboard 3.3V regulator and logic-level shifting allow operation with systems powered from 3.3V to 5V.

Current consumption depends on the measurement interval and is approximately 17mA at a 5s measurement rate and approximately 0.5mA at a 5min measurement rate. The breakout measures approximately 25.5 × 22.8 × 8mm and weighs approximately 2.7g.
