An ultrasonic sensor whose operation is based on the time-of-flight (ToF) principle. In addition to distance information, the sensor also generates an echo energy intensity value useful for distinguishing between different materials or surfaces. Seeed Studio 101021097
Grove Ultrasonic Sensor (US5) is an ultrasonic sensor whose operation is based on the time-of-flight (ToF) principle. By calculating the time it takes for an ultrasonic wave to travel to different surfaces and back, it enables precise distance measurement. In addition to precise measurements, the sensor features a compact and miniature circular design with a diameter of 1.6 cm and a height of 1.2 cm. Its small size makes it ideal for applications where space is limited. Additionally, the sensor operates on ultra-low power, ensuring efficient use of energy and making it suitable for projects that prioritize energy efficiency.
In addition to distance information, the sensor also generates an echo energy intensity value. This additional data can be valuable for analyzing the characteristics of various materials or surfaces, providing additional information beyond just distance measurements. They help distinguish between soft and hard materials by allowing the sensor to identify different types of substrates. This ability is particularly useful in applications such as cleaning robots, where the ability to recognize and adapt to different surfaces is crucial.
The sensor was designed with comfort of use in mind. Its small size and compatibility with the Grove system and easy-to-use UART interface make it easy to integrate into a project or prototype. Full documentation and examples of using the sensor are available on the product page.
