The module protects the load against reverse polarity to -60 V, but does not block reverse current, which is desirable in applications such as motor control. It uses the LM74500-Q1 controller and a MOSFET transistor. Thanks to its low impedance (10 mΩ), it supports currents up to 10 A continuous and 30 A transient, providing reliable protection and the possibility of easy assembly. Pololu 5380
The Pololu Reverse Voltage Protector is a compact solution designed to protect connected loads from reverse voltage polarity up to -60 V. By utilizing the LM74500-Q1 ideal diode controller and a MOSFET transistor, the device operates within a voltage range of 4 V (3.2 V after startup) to 60 V. When the voltage is correctly connected, the module allows free current flow; however, in the event of incorrect polarity, it blocks the voltage and protects the circuit from damage.
The device features a very low power path impedance (approximately 10 mΩ), enabling a continuous current flow of up to 10 A and a peak current of 30 A for short durations. This version does not block reverse current, making it suitable for applications such as battery-powered motor control, where energy recovery back to the power source is desirable.
The module includes large mounting holes that allow connection of wires or the use of 5 mm pitch screw terminals. Additionally, smaller 2.54 mm pitch holes are available for soldering standard pin headers. The bottom side of the board features pads for an optional transient voltage suppression (TVS) diode, enhancing system resilience against sudden voltage spikes.
