Description
KY-040 rotary encoder is a simple and effective position sensor that allows precise reading of rotation and direction of a knob. The device generates digital pulses depending on the movement, making it an ideal solution for applications such as stepper motor control, menu navigation in electronic devices, or user interfaces. Thanks to the built-in push button, the encoder can also detect knob presses, increasing its functionality.
The encoder has five pins, including data lines (CLK, DT, SW) and power (VCC and GND), allowing for easy connection to a microcontroller. Its operation is based on reading two phase-shifted square wave signals, which enable detection of both the number of rotations and their direction. With its compact size and lifetime of up to 20,000 cycles, the KY-040 is perfect for hobby and educational projects. The compact design with a metal knob ensures durability and comfortable use. The module is compatible with popular platforms such as Arduino and Raspberry Pi.
