OAK-D is an advanced robotic vision camera that combines stereoscopic depth perception with a high-resolution RGB camera, providing human-like perception. With built-in capabilities for neural network processing and computer vision, this camera enables real-time image analysis. It uses a USB Type-C port for power and connectivity, offering fast data transfer through USB 3.2 Gen1 (5 Gbps). The OAK-D camera is based on the RVC2 architecture, delivering 4 TOPS of processing power, including 1.4 TOPS dedicated to AI tasks. OAK-D supports any AI models, including custom ones, after conversion. The device supports encoding in formats like H.264, H.265, and MJPEG at resolutions up to 4K/30FPS and 1080P/60FPS. In terms of computer vision, it offers distortion correction, resizing, image cropping, edge detection, and feature tracking. Additionally, the camera provides both 2D and 3D object tracking using the ObjectTracker module.
The built-in stereo cameras provide precise depth perception with filtering, data processing, and alignment of RGB to depth. The optimal depth range is between 70 cm and 12 m, and the distance between the cameras is 75 mm. The camera is enclosed in a durable aluminum housing, with a front panel made of Gorilla Glass, ensuring durability and resistance to tough conditions. OAK-D features a standard 1/4" mounting thread for easy tripod attachment and a 75mm M4 VESA mount. Power consumption reaches a maximum of 5W, depending on the intensity of feature usage. Additionally, the OAK-D camera includes an integrated IMU BNO085—a 9-axis inertial module that allows for 3D motion tracking. This enables real-time monitoring of the camera’s position and movement. Power consumption in OAK-D depends on the load on its modules, including the Vision Processing Unit (VPU). Basic consumption along with video streaming ranges from 2.5W to 3W, with additional power demands of up to 1W for AI systems, 0.5W for stereoscopy, and 0.5W for the video encoder. The total power consumption can reach up to 5W when all features are used simultaneously. This makes it an ideal solution for projects requiring precise robotic vision, AI, depth analysis, and real-time motion tracking.
