An 8x8 panel with 64 addressable RGB LEDs, designed to work with the BBC micro:bit. It allows you to display text, animations, and lighting effects in full color, and thanks to the expansion connectors, multiple boards can be connected to create larger displays. The module is powered by a JST connector with a built-in regulator, and its design protects the micro:bit from overload. The ZIP Tile is easy to use thanks to MakeCode blocks and is ideal for educational projects, hobby projects, and interactive installations. Kitronik 5645
Kitronik ZIP Tile is a modern 8 × 8 LED display panel designed to work with the BBC micro:bit board. It allows you to display scrolling text, full-color light effects, and create animations, making it an excellent tool for learning programming and creative projects. The board features 64 individually addressable LEDs, which can be controlled separately, offering nearly unlimited visual possibilities. Thanks to special expansion connectors, multiple ZIP Tile boards can be connected together to create larger screens, enabling impressive light installations.
The panel can be connected to the micro:bit either using the included M3 screws and spacers or with crocodile clips. Additionally, the P1 and P2 pins are available in a standard 2.54 mm pitch, which makes integration with other circuits easier. The ZIP Tile is powered through a JST connector, and the built-in regulator supplies the correct voltage to the micro:bit board, eliminating the need for a separate power source. To protect the micro:bit, when the board is powered solely by the micro:bit itself, the ZIP LEDs will not light up, preventing overload of the micro:bit.
Software operation is extremely simple thanks to the prepared extension blocks for the MakeCode editor, which allow quick start without writing complex code. The ZIP Tile is perfect for schools, educational labs, creative workshops, and hobby projects where both visual appeal and ease of use are important. It is a versatile and practical module that combines functionality, safety, and extensive creative possibilities.
