SparkFun Soft Power Switch is a passive power switch with software control and feedback that operates similarly to a laptop power button. A simple press turns the system on, and another press, with appropriate microcontroller intervention, can turn the system off. In case of issues, holding the button for about 10 seconds forces a power-off. This is an ideal solution for projects that require a reliable power button, especially when using a closed Thing Plus board. The module features two USB-C connectors. The switch is highly reliable and energy-efficient, built on a durable and fully digital Texas Instruments circuit. Built-in self-resetting fuse protects against current overloads (2A), with LED indicators for operational status and a very low standby current (<1µA), making the device exceptionally energy-efficient. To turn the system on and off, simply connect the PUSH and OFF pins to a microcontroller, which will monitor button presses and initiate the controlled shutdown sequence.
Additionally, the Soft Power Switch supports high data throughput over USB, making it even more versatile. You can also adjust the device's turn-on and turn-off times to create the ideal user experience. With this solution, you have full control over the system's power while ensuring energy savings and safety in case of malfunction.
