Educational mousebot-style robotics platform designed for learning programming and robotics with the BBC micro:bit, featuring a comprehensive sensor set, precision drive system, and a USB-C rechargeable LiPo battery. Kitronik 56130
Mai-Z the MouseBot is intended for hands-on learning of programming and robotics in educational projects for school-age children and young learners. The platform works with the BBC micro:bit and enables control of a mobile robot using the MakeCode environment, including block-based programming and features based on the accelerometer, compass, and gesture input. The design also supports screen-free activities using dedicated accessories for unplugged programming.
The robot is equipped with line-following sensors, edge-detection sensors, and distance sensors, enabling projects related to autonomous navigation, obstacle avoidance, and environmental interaction. Four programmable ZIP RGB LEDs, an onboard speaker, and the ability to mount a pen or use the front scoop extend the platform’s use to creative and competitive tasks. The drive system has been designed for precise movement over defined distances and angles, supporting learning outcomes related to motion control algorithms.
Power is supplied by a built-in LiPo battery charged via USB-C, with support for operation while charging. The enclosure protects the electronics while providing easy access to the micro:bit A and B buttons and the edge connector.
