A Thing Plus development board that combines the Matter protocol and the Qwiic SparkFun ecosystem to facilitate the prototyping of IoT devices. It uses the MGM240P module from Silicon Labs, which provides secure connectivity for both 802.15.4 with Mesh (Thread) and Bluetooth® Low Energy 5.3 protocols. SparkFun DEV-20270
The module is ready to integrate with the Silicon Labs Matter IoT protocol for home automation. The Matter protocol allows for consistent operation between smart home devices and IoT platforms without an internet connection, also for devices from different manufacturers. With Matter, the user is able to communicate between major IoT ecosystems to create a single wireless protocol that is easy, reliable and secure to use.
The board has a Qwiic connector, a LiPo battery slot, a micro SD card slot and numerous GPIO pins that can be multiplexed using software. The user also has an MCP73831 LiPo charger and a MAX17048 charge level indicator to monitor the connected battery. The MGM240P wireless module is based on the EFR32MG24 SoC with a 32-bit ARM Cortext-M33 processor operating at 39 MHz with 1536 kB Flash and 256 kB RAM. It works with popular 802.15.4 wireless protocols (Matter®, Zigbee® and OpenThread®) as well as Bluetooth® Low Energy 5.3. The MGM240P supports Silicon Labs' Secure Vault™ for Thread applications. Full documentation with examples of use are available on the product page.
