A module that provides galvanically isolated, bidirectional I²C communication and isolated power supply, protecting devices from misconnections and voltage differences. Thanks to the TI ISO1640B device, it supports data transfer up to 1.7 MHz, and the power supply isolation via MPS MIE1W0505BGLVH eliminates ground loops and interference. Pololu 5392

Description

The module enables galvanically isolated, bidirectional communication between two I²C devices while also providing isolated and stabilized power for the target device. This prevents incorrect connections or improper voltages on one side from damaging the device on the other. Signal communication is based on the TI ISO1640B chip, supporting data transfer speeds of up to 1.7 MHz. Power transfer is handled by the MPS MIE1W0505BGLVH, effectively isolating the ground planes on both sides, eliminating ground loops and unwanted currents that could interfere with system operation.

The module supports an input voltage range of 3 V to 5.5 V and offers an adjustable output voltage – by default 5 V, but it can be switched to 3.3 V via a dedicated pin. It provides up to 200 mA peak current for the powered device and includes overheat and short-circuit protection. With its compact size and compatibility with popular Qwiic and Stemma QT connection systems, the module is easy to integrate into various applications. It can also be conveniently used with breadboards.
