The OpenLog (WAVGAT) module is a compact UART data logger based on the ATmega328 microcontroller, designed to record serial data directly to a microSD card. This black-box–style solution enables standalone logging of text data without the need for a continuous connection to a computer.
Description
modOpenLog is a compact, open-source data logging module intended for recording data transmitted via the UART interface directly to a microSD (TF) card. The module is built around the ATmega328 microcontroller and operates as an independent black box, storing incoming data as text files without requiring a permanent connection to a host computer.
The module communicates via the RX/TX serial interface and requires only three connections for operation: VCC, GND, and RX. Data is saved using the FAT16/FAT32 file system, allowing the microSD card to be easily read on a computer.
Upon first startup with a new memory card, the module automatically creates a CONFIG.TXT file, where operating parameters such as the UART baud rate can be configured. Configuration does not require any additional tools – simple file editing on a computer is sufficient.
Two onboard LEDs indicate operating status and data write activity. The small dimensions (approx. 19.5 × 16 mm) and very low weight (approx. 2 g) make the modOpenLog suitable for mobile applications, including model making, drones, and telemetry systems.
The module supports a wide supply voltage range (3.3–12 V, recommended 3.3–5 V), features very low power consumption, and offers temperature resistance up to 105°C, enabling operation in demanding environmental conditions.
